Apex Legends Season 22 Mid-Season Update: Patch Notes and What to Expect

Valkyrie Apex Legends

The mid-season update for Apex Legends Season 22 is just around the corner, set to drop on September 17th. Based on multiple sources, including information from Iluk Games, we already have insight into the upcoming changes. From legend adjustments to weapon tweaks and a brand-new LTM (limited-time mode), here’s everything you need to know about the mid-season patch notes.

Legend Changes: Valkyrie and Revenant Adjustments

One of the most significant updates in Season 22 is Valkyrie’s reclassification. Valkyrie will be shifting from the Skirmisher class to the Recon class. This change could revive her popularity, as her pick rate dropped after multiple nerfs a few seasons ago.

By becoming a Recon Legend, Valkyrie will gain access to survey beacons, which have become crucial in Season 22. These beacons provide real-time pings of enemy locations, offering immense strategic value. Valkyrie’s jetpack will allow her to quickly reach difficult beacon locations, adding to her versatility. Moreover, she will also benefit from the Recon class perk of gaining threat vision while aiming down sights (ADS), allowing her to spot enemies more easily—even when airborne.

In contrast, Revenant will receive a much-needed nerf. His ultimate ability has been a point of frustration for many players, and while specific details haven’t been revealed, we expect changes such as a reduction in duration or the shield granted by his ultimate. Revenant’s power has made him a tough opponent, and this nerf aims to bring better balance.

Weapon Adjustments: R-99 and Havoc

There are also some notable weapon changes in the upcoming patch. First, the R-99, which is currently in the care package, will be nerfed with the introduction of damage falloff. This means it will deal less damage at longer ranges. While the R-99 has seen several recoil changes, some players, like myself, feel that it’s already less effective compared to its former glory. However, if you’re still a fan of the R-99, this might be disappointing news.

Meanwhile, the Havoc is also getting nerfed, and the Turbocharger attachment will no longer be compatible with it. While it’s unclear whether the Turbocharger is being removed entirely or just from the Havoc, the change is expected to balance the Havoc’s performance. Even without the Turbocharger, the Havoc remains a strong weapon, so we’ll have to see how this adjustment impacts its use.

New Limited-Time Mode (LTM): Knockout

During a recent ALGS live stream, developers shared details about a brand-new LTM called Knockout, which is expected to debut in the second half of Season 22. This mode will take place on standard Battle Royale maps but introduce capture points similar to the Lockdown mode.

Teams of three will fight to hold specific zones, earning points for captures, kills, damage, and assists. After each round, the teams with the lowest points will be eliminated until only one squad remains. Knockout will also feature infinite respawns, allowing players to drop back into the action if they are eliminated, making it a fast-paced and intense experience. Although it sounds like a lot of fun, it remains to be seen how popular this mode will be among the player base.

No Duos Mode?

Despite leaks hinting that Duos would return, it seems unlikely now with the introduction of Knockout. Many players, myself included, have been eagerly awaiting the return of Duos, but it appears that this mode will not make it back in the mid-season update. Hopefully, developers will reconsider and bring back Duos soon.

New Battle Pass and Event

With the mid-season update, we’ll also get a new battle pass for Split 2 of Season 22. Like previous battle passes, it will include new skins, rewards, and challenges. Notably, the reactive weapon skin will be a P2020 recolor in black, white, and gold, matching the Fuse and Loba skins from the premium pass.

Additionally, the update will introduce a new event that will feature an heirloom reward. Based on leaks, the potential heirloom could be one of several items:

  • The Newcastle heirloom, a brand-new heirloom.
  • The Bloodhound heirloom recolor (though this is unlikely after Bangalore’s recolor).
  • The Kurit Artifact, a karambit-style universal heirloom.
  • The long-awaited Pathfinder Prestige skin.
  • Or even the mysterious Hook Swords, which could be either a legend-specific or universal heirloom.

Keep an eye out for more information on these exciting updates as they roll out.
