Hold onto your helmets, legends—because we might just be speeding into Apex Legends’ most unexpected twist yet. According to newly uncovered Leaks, Respawn is working on a full-blown racing mode called “Apex Kart”, and it’s giving serious Mario Kart vibes.
While this may not be a direct collaboration (yet), everything we’ve seen so far suggests Apex Legends is about to get its own take on the kart racing formula, and it could be one of the wildest LTMs we’ve ever had.
🚗 What Is Apex Kart?
“Apex Kart” is a new racing-only mode that completely removes the gunplay we know Apex for. In this mode, Players will spawn directly into custom karts, with each team having their own vehicles. The number of teams isn’t confirmed, but it’s structured around a checkpoint-based track system.
Forget bullets—this one’s all about burning rubber.
🗺️ Checkpoint Racing System & Map Mechanics
Each race will feature colored checkpoints across a custom track, and players will race to reach them in order:
- 🔵 Blue: Current checkpoint
- 🔷 Light Blue: Upcoming checkpoint
- ⚪ Grey: Already completed
- 🟡 Yellow: Final checkpoint
Respawn is implementing anew minimap system for this mode, which will include waypoint icons, teammate locations, enemy teams, and the next checkpoint. The track itself will beam lights into the sky to make navigation easier from a distance.
Karts are locked to each team, meaning you can’t use enemy vehicles to pass through checkpoints—no kart jacking allowed.
🕒 Match Length & Race Details
Each Apex Kart match will last around 3 to 5 minutes, but it can end faster if all teams cross the finish line early. There’s a 3-second countdown before each race begins, adding to the starting-line suspense.
And yes—there will even be a champion screen at the end of the race, giving your team the podium moment it deserves.
🧠 It’s Technically a Game Mechanic, Not Just a Mode
Here’s where it gets really interesting: despite being described as a limited-time mode, Apex Kart is actually being built as a game mechanic. This means it could be integrated into other modes or even featured in future events and maps.
Imagine dropping into a BR match, and halfway through, you’re racing through a zone for bonus loot or legend upgrades. The possibilities are wild.
🧢 Mario x Apex?
While nothing officially says “Mario Kart crossover,” the inspiration is crystal clear. And with other big gaming collabs making waves (hello, Fortnite x LEGO), a Nintendo-flavored crossover isn’t totally out of the realm of possibility.
For now though, Apex Kart looks to be Respawn’s original creation, heavily inspired by arcade racers—crafted with Apex’s unique style.
Kart racing in Apex Legends? You read that right. Whether it’s a one-off LTM or the beginning of something bigger, we can’t wait to drift into this high-Octane madness.
